Navy sailor dies after rescuing 2 children from high surf in Hawaii waters

A Florida sailor stationed successful Hawaii died aft heroically rescuing 2 children successful Waiapua‘a Bay.

Master-at-Arms 1st Class Jeffrey Diaz, 47, of Florida, died Saturday, according to a quality merchandise from the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD).

Diaz, who was stationed astatine the Pacific Missile Range Facility successful Barking Sands, jumped into the h2o to rescue 2 children who were struggling successful the precocious surf, according to the release.

An autopsy is pending to find the origin of death, but constabulary noted foul play is not suspected.

"The Kaua‘i Police Department extends its condolences to the household and loved ones of Master-at-Arms 1st Class Jeffrey Diaz during this hard time," officials wrote successful a statement.
