Subtle and rich, these delicately-scented shortbread squares brace nicely with an day cupful of tea.

Look for culinary-grade lavender to spirit the shortbread.

  • 1/4 cupful superfine sugar
  • 1 tablespoonful caller oregon dried culinary-grade lavender flowers
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick/113 grams) unsalted butter, astatine a chill country temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoons lavender vanilla extract (see Notes)
  • 1 cupful (125 grams) all-purpose flour
