Consider this the vegetarian reply to chicken-fried steak, with an casual mushroom gravy seasoned with Japanese miso paste.

Serve with mashed potatoes and greens, if you like.

Ingredients

  • 1 tiny (1 1/2 pounds) caput cauliflower
  • 1/2 spoon good oversea salt, positive much arsenic needed
  • 2 ample eggs, lightly whisked
  • 1/2 cupful flour
  • 1/2 spoon ancho chile powder
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 8 ounces stemmed shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced
