Ingredients

  • 3/4 cupful water
  • 3/4 cupful pome cider vinegar
  • 4 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Generous 2 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 3/4 spoon good salt
  • 1/2 cupful yellowish and/or brownish mustard seed, blanched (see Notes)

For the ovum pickling liquid

  • 2 cups beet juice
  • 2 cups pome cider vinegar
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons good salt

For the eggs

  • 12 hard-cooked eggs (see Notes)
  • 1 tablespoonful mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoonful Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoonful saccharine paprika
  • 1/8 spoon good salt
  • 1/2 cupful canola oil
  • 1/4 cupful water
